Weather Situation A strong cold front approaching western Bass Strait is forecast to reach Portland around 1200hrs , Cape Otway 1400hrs and Port Phillip Heads around 1600hrs. A strong and gusty westerly airstream will follow behind the front, continuing on Friday and Saturday as a low pressure system passes to the south of Tasmania. Winds will ease throughout Sunday as a high to the west moves rapidly east and reaches southern Victoria by Sunday night. Forecast for Thursday 2 February until midnight Gale Warning for Thursday for Port Phillip Winds: Northwesterly 15 to 25 knots increasing to 20 to 30 knots in the early afternoon then tending westerly in the late afternoon. Winds reaching up to 35 knots in the late afternoon and early evening near the change. Seas: 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres during the afternoon.
